
About Edinburgh Airport Edinburgh Airport, the busiest airport in 2007, managing 9,047,558 boarders, is to be found in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It made a world record by being the seventh busiest airstrip in the UK, concerning to the number of passengers. It also achieved the niche of being the fifth busiest airport in UK, in terms of transported air movements. It is situated 13 kms at the western side of the central city, and is located just off from the famous M8 motorway. Edinburgh Airport is in close proximity to the Fife Circle, and to the Edinburgh-Glasgow railway lines. BAA owns and operates the Edinburgh Airport, just as it owns six other airports in UK.It is the hub or the core for Flyglobespan, Ryanair and easyJet.The current terminal building of the Edinburgh Airport created by Robert Matthew, was resurrected in 1977, and has been developed ever since. Now, it has easy car parking conveniences, along with an expanded arrival hall. The year 2005 saw the construction of a new control tower. Also, down the sleeve, there are more plans for the development and expansion of the airport, in terms of the increase in the number of boarders, who are expected to reach more than 26 million per year. BAA announced in July 2007 that the Edinburgh Airport would foresee the expansion of the present departure hall. This would be done keeping the public’s basic needs in mind. The Edinburgh Departure hall would provide extra waiting areas, restaurants, duty-free shops; this would surely bring in an increase in the number of passengers.
